Ginger Gael
Gaelic Ginger is designed for you. It gives you a place to track your experiences, notice patterns and explore what may be influencing how you think, feel and function. By bringing your own data together with science, Gaelic Ginger helps you understand yourself better, because nobody knows your experience better than you.
Why I developed Gaelic Ginger
Gaelic Ginger began with a very personal purpose: I developed it while creating a care plan for my husband, who is living with Leukaemia. What began as an attempt to better understand and support his individual needs developed into a focused exploration of his red hair gene (MC1R) and how it might help me understand him as an individual. I gathered data on his thinking, feeling and behaviour over 84 days, three times a day, resulting in more than 2,000 observations that could be explored statistically.
Through that process, I brought together areas of science that are often considered separately, genetics, biology, psychology, lifestyle, nutrition and history, and began exploring how they could be understood together within an individual context.
Gaelic Ginger grew from that experience. I wanted to create a place where other people with the red hair gene (MC1R) could track their own experiences, explore patterns, access evidence-based information and, most importantly, understand the science behind what they are learning. You don't need to have red hair to take part. Anyone can open an account and use the app to track their own health, whether or not they carry the MC1R variant.
Science should not only be written for scientists. It should also be understandable to the people whose lives it is trying to improve.
